RULE SYSTEMS

Rule Systems

There are many rules systems out there and although you can create your own, it is always easiest to start off using a set that have been tried and tested.  Below are links to some of the systems that we have played and enjoyed, many of which offer starter PDFs with basic rules that you can use to try them out, but search for what you would like to experience as there are many flavours and settings:

Dungeon and Dragons (Fantasy)

Dungeons & Dragons is normally a firm favourite for beginners and experienced players alike.  Now on its 5th edition it is typically high fantasy though there is something for everyone and lots of different campaign settings to choose from:

Shadowrun (Science-Fantasy)

Shadowrun is also on it’s 5th edition and incorporates the world of high tech, corporate espionage and magic within a futuristic landscape.  Normally fast paced and dynamic, if hi-tech is your thing you can’t go wrong giving Shadowrun a try:

Earthdawn (Fantasy)

Earthdawn is on it’s 4th edition and incorporates high fantasy into a post-apocalyptic setting.  Varied and interesting character classes with a world steeped in history always makes this an interesting system to play:

Star Wars (Science-Fiction)

If you have ever wanted to wield a lightsabre, shoot with a blaster or attempt the Kessel Run in 12 Parsecs, then this is the system for you…

Vampire the Masquerade (Horror)

White Wolf games provide a whole host of dark, gritty Vampire and Werewolf games to sink your teeth into…

Middle Earth RPG (Fantasy)

This is based on Middle Earth.  The roleplaying game rules can be challenging and they are not always recommended for beginners, but if your desire is to venture forth to the Misty Mountains, then you can give this system a go.
